New Blog Schedule

Let’s start with the obvious (to me, at least): I don’t update my blog enough. Partly, that’s because I’m busy. Sometimes I literally don’t have time, other times I’m distracted and don’t even think about it. But one of the biggest factors is not having anything to talk about.

It can be hard, trying to decide what people will actually want to read about vs. what I just feel like rambling on about, after all! But I had a thought the other day—I used to run a Tarot blog under a different name and I kept that updated plenty. I asked myself how, then looked at the old Excel sheet I used as a post schedule (yes, I’m THAT level of nerd!) and realized what it was that kept me on track: themes.

I had a group of set themes I updated on a schedule. Certain days of the month to focus on doing a deep dive into a single card, certain days to do the same for a reversal. A day for posting about Tarot magick and another for looking into the connection between a certain card and a specific story from mythology. You get the picture—I had general themes and categories to help suggest specific topic ideas. Plus, bonus, people interested in a certain subtopic could know when to check the blog for their favorite subjects.

So what does all of this have to do with my author blog? Everything! Obviously, I won’t be talking about the Tarot (well, not much anyway. My character Davie is awfully into it, after all—I’m sure it’ll come up!) but I’ve decided on a few categories I think will help keep this blog moving!

The categories I’ve come up with are Worldbuilding, Writing Process, and Myth & Magick. The last Friday of every month I’ll be posting a general “monthly wrap-up” which will tie in with the newsletter that goes out that same day. Months with an extra Friday (my day for putting up new posts) will have what I call a “unicorn” week, where I add a post for a random topic of my choosing.

Next week is the last Friday, so it’ll be a Monthly Wrap-Up post. After that, we’ll be starting the new schedule on October 3rd with the Worldbuilding topic. Since it’ll be the first Worldbuilding post, we’ll be looking at my approach to worldbuilding in general, and looking at my fictional worlds from a fairly high level.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks for visiting and reading!
